Meet your Therapist!
Hi! I’m Alanna Kaplan, LCSW. Let me take a moment to tell you about myself. Because after this- It’s about you! I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I graduated from the University of New England in Portland, Maine in 2016. (Yep, I love lobster, the snow, mountains, and the smell of pine). I also have a Undergraduate degree in Psychology: Counseling & Mind/Body Health. Good food!-Good mood!
I have been fortunate to have a lot of enriching connections with incredible people! I have experience through employment/internships working in maximum security Prison, Individual Outpatient Counseling, College Counseling, Family & Community Mediation, Partial Hospital Program, Community Mental Health day program for adults, and group/family therapy.
Therapy Models I like to bring into the therapy room are Internal Family Systems (our sub-personalities on the inside-I’m in training) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (mindfulness, emotion regulation, interpersonal effectiveness, distress tolerance). (Yes, I practice all of these in daily life also.)
My passion for helping others stems from my own personal journey of self-discovery and growth. I love to work with people who are having a tough time, past or present, and are interested in doing internal/external work for themselves. Even when it seems impossible. Sometimes, we lose our friggen marbles and we must figure it out-Together.
I like to use some humor! If we don’t laugh sometimes-we will cry all the time. Human connection is my strongest value. I’ve been described as warm and fuzzy, and fiercely believe in people’s capacity to do some tough and meaningful work. My style has been described as adventurous, gentle, sincere, enthusiastic, supportive, “no bullshit”, authentic, and collaborative. Oh- and as you can see- the outdoors are where it’s at for me! There will be lots of different backgrounds on the screen-as traveling will be constant while we work together! Also- pets are definitely welcome to hang with us in session for sure!
